Dr. Carew embarked on her career in mental health at 19, serving as a camp counselor for children with behavioral disturbances in West Chester, PA. After completing her college education, she became a residential counselor at the Devereux Foundation in Malvern, PA, before pursuing graduate studies. After earning her master's degree, she started her psychotherapy career as a staff clinician with Community Treatment Solutions (now part of Legacy Treatment Services) and later worked at an adult partial care program in Pennsauken, NJ. After a decade with Rutgers and in youth corrections, Dr. Carew achieved her lifelong ambition of establishing a mental health group practice. Together with her husband, Scott, she founded Emerge Behavioral Health in 2018. With experience in community mental health and youth and adult corrections, Dr. Carew recognized the importance of integrating trauma-informed case conceptualization and treatment into her practice—an approach she advocates and encourages among all staff at Emerge Behavioral Health.
Dr. Carew is a board member of the South Jersey Psychological Association, where she also serves as program chair. She is affiliated with both the New Jersey Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. Outside of her professional commitments, she and her husband have two adult children, along with two dogs, and a cat.
