She utilizes various therapeutic approaches, but is not limited to: mindfulness therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, schema therapy, attachment-based therapy, and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR).
Dr. Kawano strives to provide clients with the opportunity to share and have their unique emotional and personal life experiences validated. She believes the therapeutic relationship is pivotal in the treatment response of clients. Her goal for clients is to help them see their issues in an expanded framework, help them develop a deeper understanding of themselves, examine how early life and present experiences and situations potentially contribute to deeply embedded ways of thinking and behaving, and understand how cultural factors and temperament may contribute to distress.
